Knife Laws - Love ‘em or Hate ‘em

Knife laws are made to keep us safe from, right?
Well, that’s the question of the day; at least it’s the question that is bouncing around in my mind today. Are we safer because in Texas, you can’t carry a fixed blade knife over 5.5″ long? Would it be worse to be cut by a knife that is 7″ long rather than one that is 5.5″?
Why even have knife laws?
If we didn’t have knife laws, would folks be running around looking like Crocodile Dundee or Conan with swords and knives strapped all over their bodies? I hardly think so. If you read the knife laws at the federal level and at the variety of confusing state levels, you will see that these laws are knee jerk reactions to lawsuits and such.
Why is there no common sense when determining knife laws; and even greater than that, all of our laws. Does it make sense to criminalize the possession and/or ownership of a knife or gun? Or, is it more logical to prosecute a person for their action rather than what our all-knowing lawmakers think they “might” do should they possess a knife longer than 5.5″?
There must be law.
I agree that the land must be governed by laws. But, they should be based on logic and common sense. Unfortunately, this has no place amongst lawmakers and the legal field. Laws in the United States are about lobbyists, under-the-table kickbacks, influence, blackmail and all of those dirty little things.
My best advice to you.
Well l friends, I don’t think we can beat the system as it is so distorted that there appears to be no coming back to reality. What we must do is know the system, the rules and the laws as ignorant as they may be.
You must know your rights.
www.KnifeRights.org is a great place to gain knowledge on everything knife and law related. I would also recommend the NRA as they do quite well in keeping up with all the goings on in regards to our 2nd amendment rights.
Don’t pound your head against the wall trying to figure out what all these fruit loops meant when they enacted crazy and ludicrous laws imposing on your right to own and carry a pocket knife. Just take a deep breath, know the law and watch where you display that knife.
