The Apache Warrior – The Fighting Knife Specialist

There is more than meets the eye to the Apache warrior than what you see John Wayne facing up against in the movies. Not to take away from The Duke, but the Apache warrior was more adept with his knife than he was just about anything. These warriors did not believe that their fighting knives were tools, no sir, these instruments were an extension of their hand; an appendage.
Some Interesting Apache Facts
- Entered into the American Southwest sometime after 1000 AD.
- Raiding was done with small parties with a specific economic target.
- Warfare was waged with large parties (often using clan members) with the sole purpose of retribution.
- Few pursuers every successfully found their way into the labyrinthine strongholds of the Apache Indians until they learned to turn Apache against Apache, utilizing the Apache scouts.
- The Apaches fought a guerrilla style of warfare against the Spanish, Mexicans, and Americans.
- Fight or flight, the Apaches were very skilled in doubling back like a fox and ambushing their pursuers.
- Apache knife fighting is a well respected form of martial arts practiced today.
