The NSA is Wiretapping My Phone!

I read an article that provoked me to comment. Now, you folks probably don’t come to the Knife Haggler to hear about politics; unfortunately, it gets my blood going in the morning with a good cup of coffee or four.

I was browsing through the New York Times, which is not something that I’m proud of. I find much of the information put out by the New York Times to be obviously contorted to fit an agenda in a far more extreme fashion than most news sources. Too bad the news isn’t the news anymore. We get to read about some reporter’s opinion of what happened instead of simply what happened.

This morning, I found myself painfully reading through the New York Times and ran across an article regarding wiretapping. Of course, the story is referencing the NSA’s domestic use of wiretapping. To put it straight, Congressional Democrats want to investigate the NSA’s eavesdropping program and the White House does not want them to. I wonder why?

Wiretapping the Knife Haggler is not Ethical
(”Wiretap lie” by Bill Sanders, retired cartoonist from the Milwaukee Journal from his blog.)

The Senate continues to request documents related to the NSA program and the White House continues to ignore them. The White House obviously answers to nobody. Now, subpoenas have been issued to Vice President Dick Cheney and the Justice Department to possibly order the release of information to the Senate. My thoughts, “who gives a shit”.

This is the common activity of a class and group of people who have made a career and living off of deceit, lies and manipulation. There are no “good guys” in this story. What you have is one form of deceiver point a finger at another deceiver and screaming, “Deceiver!”

I assure you, by the time that this story hit the New York Times or your chosen media; it was contorted, stretched, relaxed, reformed and just about any other verb you can think of.

During my days of lugging a huge backpack around and wearing some of the best hunting clothes I’d ever worn; while serving in the U.S. Army, I picked up on one major fact. While in garrison, and not deployed, the majority of the rank spent their time back-stabbing one another, disrupting the operations of other units by calling them inefficient or ineffective and outright sabotaging anything they could to elevate their own status.

Now, when deployed, the U.S. Army was a well-oiled machine on the ground and amongst the rank that I interacted with. They were too tired and too wore out to talk shit about each other. They spent more time trying to get us to make them look like better leaders. We had a great time with that.

My point is; our political leaders have nothing to do. They are without duties that they are held accountable for. They spend more time plotting against one another while the taxpayers foot the bill, than they do performing jobs. So, what you have is something similar to the ancient leadership of Rome. This is a detachment from reality. There is a massive gap between Americans and political leaders. And, I assure you, political leaders both Democrat and Republican have no intention of closing that gap. It will only continue to grow larger.

Now, the above sets the perfect scene for the press. The media can exaggerate and contort all of these silly accuasations made by politican against politician. Now the newspaper is filled with shock-value news, and that is what Americans have grown to love.

Let me give you some examples of American responses and a response or two of my own to those.

“The NSA is wire-tapping my phones! This is an outrageous violation of my rights!”

Yep, it is. And, when they tell the world that they’ve stopped doing it, they’ll still be doing it. So who gives a flying load of crap.

“We need to pull our troops out. Get them home, now!”

You’re right. And, when we do, some other blood-thirsty, psychotic, murdering rapist will take power once again. Then, we will deploy another 100,000 troops to destroy him as gently as possible and build another “democracy”.

“These gas prices are ridiculous. We are getting ripped off.”

You’re right. They always have been ridiculous and always will be ridiculous. We will always be ripped off, or in other words, the oil companies will always make a profit off of us. How dare they.

“Our borders are not secure. We need border security and we need to give the fun-loving illegal immigrants aid and the legal ability to work in the United States.”

You’re right, the borders are not secure. But, the Mexican border is a long ways from Washington D.C. So, get used to it. Illegal immigrants should be allowed aid and to work here legally. They get aid, and they could care less if they work here legally or not. They didn’t come over legally, why would they care about working legally? Duh.

“Airport and airline security sucks.”

You’re damned-skippy it sucks. It will always suck. The airline industry is one of the biggest lobbyists (i.e. dollar donators) in D.C. More security means less profit. You figure it out.

“I’m voting for such-and-such, we need a change.”

You can vote for someone in hopes of change; you may get very lucky and see someone in office who sticks to their word. But, my opinion, they don’t make it to the level of candidate for the presidency by being honest. I’ll leave it at that.

Yeah, it’s a shame. Why don’t _you_ run for office? Believe it or not, you can make a big difference on the local level.
